It's final: Liberation Day will just be a daylong event

It's official: The 2012 Liberation Day festivities will just be a daylong celebration, according to Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores.

Flores, who just returned from a trip to the Philippines, said in a briefing Friday that he and members of the Liberation Day committee arrived at that decision following a meeting on May 24.

Some 100 U.S. Marines stationed in Japan arrived yesterday morning on Tinian via a private high-speed vessel, transforming the sleepy island into a hub of military training and related activities, at least for the duration of Exercise Geiger Fury 2012, the largest military exercise the CNMI has seen in years.

One Saipan father put his thinking-cap on and imagined a quick, inexpensive and delightfully entertaining and instructional activity; pancake creations.
Nathan Shields and family are newcomers to Saipan having relocated from Portland, Oregon last Summer.
